New Zealand: Operation Jerusalem
Just as the Lord told his disciples to be witnesses in Jerusalem,
OAC New Zealand mobilizes hundreds of Christians in evangelism over
the Christmas - New Year holiday season in a program called 'Operation
Jerusalem'. This year, approx-imately 1500 Christians were trained
by OAC and sent out in 72 teams from 87 churches. Mainly made up of
young people, these teams went out all over the country to preach
the gospel in the open air and at family events, and to witness one-on-one
in coffee bars. Camp sites, small towns, and holiday spots readily
opened their doors to them, and thousands were reached. A total of
446 responded, mostly for salvation, and all have been followed up.
New Zealand enjoys religious freedom in the public schools, and every
week OAC ministers to at least 4000 students. Future outreaches for
the year 2000 include the Sydney Olympics, Americas Cup - now New
Zealand's Cup! - mobilizing teams in evangelism from the visiting
Doulos ship, outreach in the Pacific Islands, and playing a major
role in the 2001 Franklin Graham Auckland Crusade.
