OACI Update 1998

Punjab branch opens

Evangelism in the Punjab In India - home to almost 1 billion people, 33 million gods and 200 million holy cows! - Christ is building His church. While missionary visas for evangelism are virtually impossible to obtain, national believers have the religious freedom in most states to evangelize freely. They need no visa, language school, culture orientation or costly budget, but only the prayers and modest support of God's people from abroad.

Situated near the Pakistani border near China, the Punjab is home to our newest OACI branch. In this state of 20 million, only 1% are Christian. Pictured above, a Sikh in his traditional turban and a Hindu woman from the poorest caste listen intently to the good news of the gospel. The message of the cross knows no class distinction. Some pray to trust Christ alone for salvation.

The gospel van In the first month of our Punjab Branch, our three national evangelists preached the gospel to over 9,000 people. When asked in one village how many were hearing the gospel for the first time, half raised their hands. By working in partnership with the church, new believers are already showing up in their services. Our free Bible Correspondence School also provides follow-up. If you would like to be part of our evangelists' support team, please contact the OACI office.
