Jamaica: Island in the sun responds to the Son
Jamaica, a beautiful Caribbean island which is home to 3 million people
of African descent, helped in the evangelization of West Africa years
ago. Today, however, Jamaica needs to turn back to God, as it faces
serious problems of poverty, violence and drugs.
Deep within the hearts of most Jamaicans is a fear of God. Public
school principals continuously call on our Jamaican evangelists for
devotions. Since OAC began in 1984, approximately 1 million have attended
these assemblies. Many have prayed to trust Christ.
At a weekly early morning service for expectant mothers, some respond
with broken hearts to the Savior (less than 15% of all children are
born to married parents). At an open-air meeting in Kingston, men,
who rarely go to church, listen to the gospel for one hour. Some come
in repentance and faith to be counseled by local church brothers.
