Borderlines
June 1999
All your questions answered
(well, not all of them...)
Why is it called Project Snowball?
We had to call it something! Our starting point was a desire to see
large numbers of evangelists equipped and sent into mainland Europe.
Our prayer is that this project will gather momentum, and be used
to affect increasing numbers of people. 'Project Avalanche' would
probably have been more etymologically accurate, but it didn't have
the right ring about it...
When will the programme start?
We plan to launch the programme in September 2000. We will be running
a pilot course in Bristol from September 1999 (see opposite). The
programme runs for 36 weeks, finishing in June, with the possibility
of additional placements or mission trips during the breaks.
Where will you be offering programmes?
In Bristol, UK and Provence, France. The training in Bristol will
take place in Sea Mills, while the practical work will be organised
with a range of churches in the Bristol area. The French course will
be run in the MEPA training centre, in French, with most of the practical
activities taking place in Avignon.
Who is the programme aimed at?
Anyone wishing to receive in-depth training in a wide range of evangelistic
techniques, along with a solid grounding in theology, a working knowledge
of current world views and a clear understanding of the call and ministry
of the evangelist.
What makes this programme different?
We have tried to create a training programme that is rooted in regular
practical experience, but which also tackles key background issues,
and which is geared specifically to those with an evangelistic gifting.
Who will lead the programme?
A full-time team of OACI staff, (presented elsewhere in this issue),
plus other evangelists from the UK and abroad, plus various external
speakers.
What will the weekly programme look like?
The bulk of the teaching will take place from Monday to Friday. Regular
evangelistic activities will be arranged, from children's clubs and
puppet show tours to evangelistic services and open-airs. Each participant
will be encouraged to spend time working in areas of particular interest.
What will the year's programme look like?
The programme consists of five sessions, covering subjects such as
spirituality, hope and truth. Each session contains teaching, practical
workshops, seminar and personal work and real-world experience. Each
session culminates with a mini-mission in which the participants will
use the techniques they have learned to present a Christian response
to the theme of the session in an evangelistic context.
