UNLESS THEY ARE SENT...
by Mark HoweWith the end of the century approaching, the outlook for 'finishing the task' by the year 2000 - as many hoped a few years ago - is less than promising. What is the problem? There is no shortage of techniques and methods. Christians now have access to satellite television, radio and the internet. Yet the vast majority of Europeans are still ignorant of the basic gospel message. The situation in Europe is more favorable to the proclamation of the gospel than it has been for many years. The Iron Curtain has fallen, opening up the East, and the ever-expanding European Community offers freedom of travel. Yet the Jehovah's Witnesses are still more visible than evangelicals in Southern Europe. The problem is not the 'spiritual climate'. As Jesus put it, "The fields are white unto harvest." There is always a harvest to be reaped. Jesus put his finger on the problem: "...but the workers are few". In God's economy there is no high-tech substitute for human labour. Gilles, pictured above, is typical of many workers in Southern Europe. He has just finished his theological studies, and wishes to work as an evangelist on the streets of Paris. His local church is behind him, but he needs around £350 per month to give him a part-time income and social security cover. There are many others like him. Why not use the attached response slip to ask for information about playing your part in sending southern European workers into the harvest field?
