LOVE EUROPE
by Chris Mathieson
Leon, north-west Spain was the location for this year's Love Spain
outreach, supported as usual by Europe Now's Chris Mathieson.
The campaign started while Spain was in uproar over the cruel assassination
of Miguel Angel Blanco by ETA terrorists. Over ten percent of the
population joined demonstrations nationwide, including Leon, so Chris's
first crowd was 15,000 strong. Pity there was no space for a sketchboard!
For several days, the atmosphere was tense and direct, and serious
messages were the order of the day. At the very first open-air we
met a lady called Susanna, who seems to have taken a clear decision
to put her life right with Christ. Several others also made decisions
in the first days and visited the church regularly. Pray for the church
team who are helping Susanna and others in Bible studies, with a view
to establishing a daughter church in the area.
The other side of Love Europe is the training opportunity. During
July, a large team came from Puerto Rico, got hooked on sketchboard
evangelism and took two boards home with them! In August, the largest
group was from Portadown: real Irish storytellers - a joy to train
and translate. 'The Prodigal Son' took on a whole new dimension!
