TEAM PLAYERS
by Jørgen JohansenUlrich, Britta, Marianne and Jacob arrived in Estonia in July. The four Danes - who are aged between 19 and 30 - began work at once, helping with a young people's camp and a Bible Week in association with a Danish church. Having employed a full-time interpreter to help them over the language barrier, the team held weekly open-air meetings in Paide. They also presented OAC's work to a group of pastors.
In October the team moved on to Latvia. They worked with a good number of churches and schools. Church leaders were sceptical at first, associating open-air preaching with cults. However, many changed their minds once they saw the team in action. Some local Christians have now started to preach on the streets. A high point of the team's time in the Baltics was seeing a Latvian girl they had trained speaking on the streets for the first time. The vice-president of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church has recently commended the work of OAC. The clergy are extremely overworked, some serving two or three churches, so they do not have much energy left for evangelism. OAC therefore plans to send another team when the current one leaves at Christmas.
