Europe Now
Equipping the Church to proclaim the Gospel
Some facts about Europe
They say that the world is getting smaller. Certainly it has never been
easier to travel around Europe. Motorways stretch from the Mediterranean to
the Artic Circle, and railways carry the fastest trains in the world. The
Iron Curtain has collapsed in the East, while the Schengen agreement means
that many borders in the West are now invisible to travellers.
Europe may seem to be shrinking, but it is still currently home to 515
million people from over 1,000 ethnic groups. Over 120 languages are spoken
in this small continent.
Tourists come from all over the world to admire the cathedrals of Europe,
often never realising that the Church is in crisis. Too often the spiritual
vacuum is filled by a cocktail of New Age teaching, occult superstition and
cults. In many countries the Jehovah‘s Witnesses are more visible than the
Christians.
Under 3% of Europeans are evangelical. In France, Greece, Ireland, Italy and
Spain the figure is 1% or less. Twenty centuries after the apostle Paul
visited Europe, around 500 million people have yet to respond to the Gospel
of Jesus Christ.
So what can be done?
Some facts about Europe Now
A Bristol-based Registered Charity which seeks to play a role in the
evangelisation of Europe by:
- Providing training for those contemplating a career in mission
in Europe through Project Snowball.
- Raising awareness of the spiritual needs of Europe among
English-speaking Christians through newsletters, seminars...
- Raising and channelling support for individuals and organisations
involved in evangelism in Europe,
- Organising evangelistic outreaches, notably in southern Europe, in
collaboration with other organisations,
Europe Now is interdenominational, and works with a range of organisations
at the forefront of evangelism. It is part of OAC International, a mission
that traces its roots back to 1892 and which now has workers in over twenty
countries.
The spiritual state of Europe demands an urgent response. Europe Now is
seeking to play its part in equipping the Church to proclaim the Gospel to
500 million people. Will you consider getting involved, by praying
regularly, by supporting us financially or by joining one of our teams?
